Advice: get local Thai SIM card for Line
Just advice for anyone going to Thailand soon.
Don't just use your roaming, get a Thai SIM card at the airport, then register Line in Thailand. Currently Line doesn't accept registrations from Singapore phone numbers. if you maintained Line app for a long time, didn't change phone etc then it might work for you, but generally if you freshly installed Line you cannot register your SG number. You can technically install the app and add contacts, but the contacts will not be able to read your messages. So sometimes if you think people are ignoring you, it's actually because they didn't receive your message. If you install the app once in Thailand, with Thai SIM and register then you can send messages normally. |

Re: Advice: get local Thai SIM card for Line
New LINE registrations seems will come with restrictions.
LINE is very bastard on this as they try to prevent scam and spam as well as indiscriminate adding of contacts. I think if you want to immediately able to chat with another person, you have to ask the other party to add you first. Otherwise, the restrictions can be as long as more than 90days. |

You also can easily get a esim from arialo, it comes with an Thai number and you can do it even before you arrive

Re: Advice: get local Thai SIM card for Line
Looks like it's affecting even my existing Line account which was made before. I can't seem to find any new Line IDs and they can't find me using my ID as well. Those chats I've already had before seem to be working fine. Any workaround for this?

Re: Advice: get local Thai SIM card for Line
Newer phones internal OS comes with dual Apps function. Any Apps on such phones can have 2 accounts. Register other Line App with a Thai nos.
BTW, never get a Thai SIM (tourist) from any Thai airport. Not a good deal. Better to get a local pre-paid sim. One amount for 30 days with free local calls & 50 to 100GB data, depends on package price. Can keep this sim nos indefinitely even if you don't pay up after 30 days expiry. On your next visit, just topup to get sim working again. |

I learnt this the hard way with my U-mobile pre-paid card. I had been using this pre-paid sim for the past 7 years topping up every 28 days before it expires.... my last top up was 2 weeks ago but few days ago it went MIA. My phone cannot operate with the message No Sim Card. So I contacted U-mobile who did a check on my number and told me my pre-paid sim card oredi past 7 years and expired. I was given the option to convert to a post-paid e-sim if I want to retain the same number... or buy another new pre-paid sim card. I believe the pre-paid sim cards of other countries oso operate the same way. |
Re: Advice: get local Thai SIM card for Line
Anyone not able to add new line ID currently? Not a new account but not able to add Thai line ID. If ask them to add it is ok though.

I had a problem when I bought a new phone but using the same sim card. But it worked as usual again when I put the sim card back to my old phone. No problems with line at all. I suspect the Line algorithmn recognises devices imei instead of sim numbers..... that's why probably encounter problems unless it is the original phone that you used to registered your line account with. |
No. Never use any new phone or take out my SIM card. Also my line is not a new account, been using it for close to 2 years. Not sure what's the issue here.

Re: Advice: get local Thai SIM card for Line
I had been using LINE for a number of years on my Singapore phone. All OK until a few months ago where I cannot add any new contact, through their tel no or ID. And Thai people cannot add me.
Apart from this, all works in that I still can send messages to all my previous LINE contacts. When I query LINE, they came me a standard answer which are found in their Q&A. They did not say anything about my Singapore LINE no having restrictions or gave me a proper answer. |

Re: Advice: get local Thai SIM card for Line
I have LINE on both my SG & EU phones. Respectively since 2016 and 2020.
Use it all the time for comms with my TH team, both when in TH and when in anyother country. And when in TH on my SG fone for finding fun. NOissues with the nearby function and not even any issues joining group under for example SLGals. I use my fone nbrs to register & log in not google or fb. Hope this helps. Maybe you need to uninstall n reinstall? LINE has like any app done upgrades. Possibly they did not load? I regularly uninstall....for security reasons....then i reinstall using my fone nbr....not a single prob. Hope helps |
Re: Advice: get local Thai SIM card for Line
Existing contacts can still be communicated but if trying to add new pple or someone share contact that is registered in thailand, other regions cant add unless ur line registered with thai number. Only way to add is via QR code
